The 62D Maintenance Squadron (62d MXS) is comprised of 600+ active duty, civilian and Reserve personnel responsible for maintenance and sortie generation efforts for 40 C-17 aircraft in support of Headquarters Air Force and Department of Defense directed aircraft tasking’s. The 62d MXS is the only maintenance squadron in the USAF with the unique opportunity in direct support of missions crossing all seven continents. Joint Base Lewis–McChord (JBLM) is located in Tacoma, WA just 40 minutes from Seattle. Some major landmarks nearby include the Space Needle, Mt. Rainier, Olympic National Park, Mt. Baker, and Tacoma narrows bridge.

The C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport aircraft developed by Boeing, renowned for its ability to carry oversized cargo, troops, and vehicles over long distances. It features advanced capabilities for rapid strategic airlift and can perform airdrop missions as well as medical evacuations. With a maximum payload capacity of 170,900 pounds, the C-17 is capable of landing on short and austere runways, making it versatile in both combat and humanitarian operations. The aircraft plays a vital role in supporting global U.S. military operations and has been a workhorse for air mobility since its introduction in the 1990s.
Joint Base Lewis–McChord (JBLM) is a U.S. military installation home to I Corps and 62nd Airlift Wing located 9.1 miles south-southwest of Tacoma, Washington under the jurisdiction of the United States Army Joint Base Headquarters, Joint Base Lewis–McChord. The facility is an amalgamation of the United States Army’s Fort Lewis and the United States Air Force’s McChord Air Force Base which merged on 1 February 2010 into a Joint Base as a result of Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations of 2005. Joint Base Lewis–McChord is a training and mobilization center for all services and is the only Army power projection base west of the Rocky Mountains in the Continental United States. Its geographic location provides rapid access to the deepwater ports of Tacoma, Olympia, and Seattle for deploying equipment. Units can be deployed from McChord Field, and individuals and small groups can also use nearby Sea-Tac Airport. The strategic location of the base provides Air Force units with the ability to conduct combat and humanitarian airlift with the C-17 Globemaster III.
