The 50th Air Refueling Squadron (50th ARS) is assigned to the 6th Operations Group6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. The “Red Devils” operate the Boeing KC-135R/T Stratotanker aircraft executing air refueling, airlift, and Medical evacuation missions. The 50th Troop Carrier Squadron was activated in 1942 (WWII) at Drew Field, FL (now Tampa International Airport) flying the Douglas C-47 Skytrain. The unit directly supported Operations Husky, Avalanche, Overlord, Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and Varsity, dropping Paratroopers and supplies, towing gliders to frontlines and beyond while evacuating casualties to rear-zone hospitals.
