The 36th Rescue Squadron (36 RQS) is a geographically separated unit of the 58th Special Operations Wing, operating at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington. It operates four UH-1N Huey Helicopters supporting the United States Air Force Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (S.E.R.E) training mission, ensuring the safety and training of over 4,000 students annually. The 36th RQS is also part of the National Search and Rescue Plan, providing 24/7 civilian Search and Rescue capabilities throughout the Pacific Northwest. In addition, they utilize the most advanced rotary FLIR system in the US Air Force inventory, providing SAR capabilities day or night. Fairchild AFB is approximately 20 minutes away from Spokane, WA and the 36th RQS has been a part of the SERE mission since 1971.
