North Carolina ANG 145th Airlift Wing. The 145th Airlift Wing (145 AW) is a unit of the North Carolina Air National Guard (NCANG) located at Charlotte ANG Base (Charlotte Douglas International Airport) in Charlotte, North Carolina. It operates the C-17A Globemaster III providing global airlift, combat, and humanitarian support for federal and state authorities. Charlotte is nicknamed the “Queen City” and is the largest city in North Carolina. In 2017, the 145th Airlift Wing began converting from the C-130H Hercules to the C-17A Globemaster III, with the conversion to be completed sometime is 2020.
