Naval Station Mayport Florida HSM-48 MH-60R

Naval Station Mayport Florida HSM-48 MH-60R poster art.

Naval Station Mayport is a major United States Navy base in Jacksonville, Florida. It contains a protected harbor that can accommodate aircraft carrier-size vessels, ship’s intermediate maintenance activity (SIMA) and a military airfield (Admiral David L. McDonald Field) with one asphalt paved runway (5/23) measuring 8,001 × 200 ft. Since its commissioning in December 1942, NS Mayport has grown to become the third largest naval surface fleet concentration area in the United States. Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 48 (HSM-48) transitioned from HSL (Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light) into HSM in May of 2014. Under the new HSM-48 standard, the squadron now operates the MH-60R and moved from the SH-60B “Seahawk” helicopter that has been in service with the “Vipers” since the squadron’s inception in 1989. HSM-48 is “the Bold New Squadron of the South”!
