The US Naval War College (NWC or NAVWARCOL), is located on Naval Station Newport (Newport, RI). Established in 1884 as an advanced course of professional study for naval officers, the U.S. Naval War College educates and develops leaders at specific stages in their careers from all services, U.S. government agencies and departments, and international navies. It is a Joint Professional Military Education course (all services represented) that lies directly on the water next to Newport harbor. It has been the home of wargaming and original research on all topics relating to war. The Naval War College is the staff college and “Home of Thought” for the United States Navy at Naval Station Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. The NWC educates and develops leaders, supports defining the future Navy and associated roles and missions, supports combat readiness, and strengthens global maritime partnerships. The Naval War College is one of the senior service colleges including the Army War College, the Marine Corps War College, and the USAF Air War College.
