Location: New Orleans, LAMichael spent his childhood reading such literary classics as “Sgt. Rock” and “Enemy Ace”, spending hours copying the illustrations. He later received a B.A. in Art and still uses his comic book influence along with his love of history and aviation in his work.

The Grumman F6F Hellcat became a dominant force in the skies over the Pacific, earning a legendary reputation for its rugged construction, powerful performance, and effectiveness in carrier-based combat. Developed for the U.S. Navy, the Hellcat was designed to meet the demands of the Pacific air war and quickly proved itself as a formidable fighter in the hands of American naval aviators.
Powered by the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine, the F6F combined speed, durability, heavy firepower, and excellent carrier handling. Throughout World War II, Hellcat pilots achieved thousands of aerial victories and helped establish Allied air superiority across the Pacific Theater. Hellcats were credited with destroying a total of 5,223 enemy aircraft while in service with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm (FAA). This was more than any other Allied naval aircraft. After the war, Hellcats were phased out of front-line service in the US, but radar-equipped F6F-5Ns remained in service as late as 1954 as night fighters.
