F-14 Top Gun Pop Art vintage style military aviation travel poster art by Squadron Posters!
The “real” Top Gun is the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School, which is also known as the Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program. It’s a prestigious training program where the top 5% of Navy pilots attend to hone their fighter tactics skills. While the movie “Top Gun” popularized the name, the real school is about serious combat training and developing expert aviators. The United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program teaches air combat maneuvering tactics and techniques to selected naval aviators and naval flight officers, who return to their operating units as surrogate instructors. The program began as the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, established on 3 March 1969, at the former Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California. In 1996, the school was merged into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada.
Naval Air Station Fallon or NAS Fallon is the United States Navy’s premier air-to-air and air-to-ground training facility. It is located southeast of the city of Fallon, east of Reno in western Nevada. Since 1996, it has been home to the U.S. Navy-Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) taking over from the former NAS Miramar, California, and the surrounding area contains 240,000 acres of bombing and electronic warfare ranges. It is also home to the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center, which includes TOPGUN, the Carrier Airborne Early Warning Weapons School, and the Navy Rotary Wing Weapons School. Navy SEAL, and Combat Search and Rescue training also take place there. Check out this stunning F-14 Top Gun Pop Art by – Squadron Posters!
