No. 31 Squadron of the Royal Air Force (RAF), known as “The Goldstars”, currently operates the Tornado GR4 from RAF Marham, Norfolk. Formed in 1915 its first deployment was to the North-West Frontier in former British India to conduct artillery spotting.
Royal Air Force Akrotiri or more simply RAF Akrotiri is a large Royal Air Force station, on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. It is located in the Western Sovereign Base Area, one of two areas which comprise Akrotiri and Dhekelia, a British Overseas Territory, administered as a Sovereign Base Area. The station commander has a dual role and is also the officer commanding the Akrotiri or Western Sovereign Base Area, reporting to the commander of British Forces Cyprus who is also the Administrator.
