Bellanca “Junior” 14-9 NC25197 Art

Bellanca “Junior” 14-9 NC25197 Art.

Giuseppe Bellanca’s “Junior,” later known as the “Cruisair Jr.,” was an exceptional aircraft design that stood the test of time. With its sleek, tapered cantilever wings, retractable landing gear, and distinctive twin-fin tail group, the Junior embodied innovation in the late 1930s. The 1939-40 models were powered by a 90 hp Ken-Royce engine, while the 1941 version featured a 5-cylinder Lenape “Brave” engine. Civil Air Patrol’s NC25197 was one of these remarkable aircraft, flying anti-submarine missions out of Coastal Patrol Base No.13 at Lowe Field in Sarasota, Florida. This versatile fleet also included other notable aircraft like Stinsons, Wacos, Fairchilds, and an Aeronca.
