The 79th Fighter Generation Squadron (79th FGS) is formerly the 79th Aircraft Maintenance Unit. Their mission remains the same, just the name has changed. The 79th FGS is part of the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. It maintains the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. (see more below)

Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976.
