Offutt AFB OT-3 Art vintage style military aviation travel poster art by – Squadron Posters!
Located just south of Omaha, Offutt Air Force Base is home to U.S. Strategic Command and plays a central role in global command and control operations. With a rich history dating back to World War I, Offutt has evolved into one of the most critical installations in U.S. defense infrastructure. The base supports missions ranging from nuclear deterrence to cyber and space operations and is also home to the elite National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC). Offutt AFB’s legacy includes the construction of the Enola Gay and Bockscar, the planes that dropped Little Boy and Fat Man over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II. Offutt served over 40 years as the headquarters for the former Strategic Air Command and home for its associated ground and aerial command centers for the United States in the case of nuclear war during the Cold War.
The E-4B “Nightwatch” is the U.S. Air Force’s premier airborne command post, designed to survive and operate in the most extreme conditions, including nuclear conflict. Modified from the Boeing 747-200, the E-4B is equipped with hardened communications, EMP shielding, and onboard battle staff facilities. It supports the National Command Authority with global reach and secure command and control capabilities, making it a vital asset in strategic operations.
