The C-26E Metroliner, operated by the South Carolina/Wisconsin Army National Guard, is a versatile twin turboprop aircraft used by the United States military. Adaptable for carrying up to 14 passengers, cargo, or litter patients in a MEDEVAC configuration, it features a large cargo door for transporting bulkier items. This aircraft plays a critical role in the Horn of Africa mission, stationed in Djibouti, where it transports VIPs, passengers, cargo, mail, and vital medical supplies, including blood. The C-26E Metroliner operated by the South Carolina/Wisconsin Army National Guard is a “Fairchild C-26 Metroliner” the designation for the Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner series twin turboprop aircraft in the service of the United States military. The C26E is a convertible passenger aircraft that can be adapted to carry up to 14 passengers and/or cargo. The plane can also be converted to carry litter patients in a MEDEVAC configuration. What makes the C-26 unique is the large cargo door, allowing bulkier items to be loaded for transport. In support of the mission of the Horn of Africa stationed in Djibouti the C – 26E is used to carry VIPs, passengers, cargo, mail, and critical medical supplies, including blood. A routine mission day consists of flights from outposts around the country of Somalia and the Horn of Africa, including Mogadishu, Somalia in order to deliver supplies and passengers.

It was not officially named by the US Armed Forces, but is unofficially known by the same name as its civilian counterpart. The C-26A is the military version of the Model SA227-AC Metro III; the C-26B is the military version of the Model SA227-BC Metro III and Model SA227-DC Metro 23; and UC-26C is the military designation for the Model SA227-AT Merlin IVC.
