Dating back to 1917 in WWI, the 8th Special Operations Squadron is the 2nd oldest and most decorated operational squadron in the Air Force. Based out of Hurlburt Field on the Emerald Coast of Florida, the 8th SOS “Blackbirds” specialize in blacked – out, low altitude infiltration, exfiltration, refuel, and resupply of special operation forces worldwide. The 8th ‘s most recent addition to a long heritage of missions is testing, developing, and fielding AFSOC’s new flagship; a heavily modified variant of the MC – 130J, set to be named the Combat Talon III.
