The 38th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron (38 EAS), more commonly known as “Delta Squadron”, was a provisional United State Air Force unit activated in 2008, assigned to the 86th Operations Group of United States Air Forces in Europe, and stationed at Ramstein AB, Germany. It was comprised of personnel rotating from Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve C-130 Hercules units in response to increased demands for airlift missions in Europe. The “Delta Squadron” was originally located at RAF Mildenhall, England and was moved to Rhein-Main AB, Germany in 1990 due to operations in the Balkan region. In 1994 it was relocated to Ramstein AB where it operated until it’s inactivation on 15 Sep 2010 after more than 20 years in Germany.

The 38 EAS was unique in that it was comprised of personnel rotating from various Air National Guard (ANG) and Air Force Reserve (AFRES) units equipped with C-130E/H Hercules and C-130J Super Hercules transports.
The mission of the 38 EAS was to augment Ramstein-based airlift assets in support of USEUCOM theater airlift requirements. The “DeIta Squadron” originally began operations from Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, but in 1990 moved to Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany in response to increase demands for airlift missions to the Balkan region. In 1994, the unit relocated to Ramstein AB, Germany and remained there until it’s inactivation in 2010.Today, ANG and AFRC augment USEUCOM theater airlift with C-130s through the “Silver Arrow” program.
