Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni VAW-125 poster art.
Airborne Command & Control Squadron 125 (VAW-125), also known as the “Tigertails” or “Torch Bearers,” is forward-deployed to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. The “Tigertails” fall under the command of Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) and the U.S. Seventh Fleet, the only forward-deployed carrier strike group in the U.S. Navy. The Badman Airwing is attached to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).VAW-125 flies the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye “Tracer”, which is an all-weather, carrier-capable tactical airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft. The Hawkeye serves as the “digital quarterback” to sweep ahead of strike groups, manage the mission, and keep net-centric carrier battle groups out of harms way. The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is equipped with the most advanced airborne radar in the world, possessing systems which increase the capabilities to defend Japan and provide security in the Indo-Pacific region.
