Kingsley Field – 550th Fighter Squadron

Kingsley Field – 550th Fighter Squadron poster art.

The 550th Fighter Squadron (550 FS) is a geographically separated unit of the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke AFB and located at Kingsley Field in Oregon. The squadron supports the 173rd Fighter Wing in operating the F-15C Eagle and trains and graduates all F-15C pilots for the Combat Air Forces. Kingsley Field is located near the Cascades Mountain range in south central Oregon. The 550 FS was originally constituted as a Night Fighter Squadron in WWII and saw combat in the Pacific Theater and is known as “The Silver Eagles.”

Crater Lake (Depicted in this artwork) was formed over 7,700 years ago when the active volcano Mt. Mazama erupted and then sank into the ground creating this deep basin. Over the years snow-melt and rain filled the crater forming the lake. At a depth of 1,943 feet this is deepest lake in the USA. It also has the purist water of any lake resulting in it’s extremely deep blue color.
