The 962nd Airborne Air Control Squadron, the “Eagles”, is part of the 3rd Operations Group, 3rd Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK. It operates 2 E-3 Sentry‘s in support of US Indo-Pacific Command and NORAD missions with 147 US & 12 Canadian members, whose expertise ensures the sovereignty of our two nations. (Tragically, the unit was home to the crew of: Yukla 27, the callsign for the E-3 that crashed on 22 Sept 1995, killing 24. The deadliest day in E-3 history.)

The E-3 Sentry, commonly known as AWACS, is an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft developed by Boeing as the prime contractor. Derived from the Boeing 707, it provides all-weather surveillance, command, control and communications, and is used by the United States Air Force (USAF), NATO, Royal Air Force (RAF), French Air Force and Royal Saudi Air Force. The E-3 is distinguished by the distinctive rotating radar dome above the fuselage. Production ended in 1992 after 68 aircraft had been built.
