The 9th Attack Squadron (9 ATKS) is part of the 49th Wing at Holloman Air Force Base, near Alamogordo, NM. It operates as a Flying Training Unit providing Initial Qualifying Training training on the MQ – 9B. Holloman is close to Sierra Blanca & the Sacramento Mountains, and near the Trinity site. The 9th was started in 1941, and has a storied history of aircraft including the P-35, P-40, P-47, P-38, P-51, F-80, F-84, F-100, F-105, F-4D, F-15, F-4F, T-38, F-117, & MQ-9. They were home to the highest scoring ace in US history, Maj Richard Bong. The squadron nickname is the “Flying Knights”.
