The 22d Intelligence Squadron (22 IS) is part of the 70th Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance Wing at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. It provides decisive information operations shaping the battle space environment. It tasks and conducts signals intel operations in support of the Department of Defense (DOD) and other authorized organizations as an integral part of the National Security Agency (NSA). Originally founded in 1917 as a “pursuit fighter squadron”, the 22d Aero Squadron; the 22d Intelligence Squadron is over 100 years old. The iconic Smith IV SPAD XIII found in the Smithsonian, flew under the banner of the 22d Aero Squadron in WWI. The squadron’s name is “The Shooting stars”, also known as the “Best in Blue”!
