Luke Air Force Base, located in Glendale, Arizona, is the largest fighter pilot training base in the world. As home to the 56th Fighter Wing, it focuses on training F-35 Lightning II and F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots for the U.S. Air Force and its allied partners. Named in honor of Second Lieutenant Frank Luke Jr., a World War I Medal of Honor recipient, the base carries a rich heritage of excellence and innovation. With its state-of-the-art facilities and expert personnel, Luke AFB plays a critical role in preparing the next generation of airpower leaders. It stands as a symbol of strength, readiness, and global partnership.
The Airman Leadership School (ALS) is the first level of Professional Military Education of enlisted Airmen experience. It is designed to be an entry level leadership enhancement course to prepare Senior Airmen for positions of greater responsibility by strengthening their ability to lead, follow, and manage while also gaining a broader understanding of the military profession and their role within the Air and Space Forces. Completion is required to assume the grade of Staff Sergeant. There are 68 Active Duty ALS schools and 1 Air National Guard school globally that is managed by their respective Major Command. The Barnes Center provides program management guidance and comprehensive curriculum materials to each of these schools.
