Diego Garcia Cannon Point

Diego Garcia Cannon Point  Art.

Diego Garcia (also known as “The Footprint Of Freedom” due to the island’s shape) is the largest island of the Chagos Archipelago. It has been used as a joint UK–U.S. military base since the 1970s, located just south of the equator in the central Indian Ocean. Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, abbreviated as NSF Diego Garcia, is a British Indian Ocean Territory facility used by the Royal Navy and leased to the United States Navy, located on the atoll Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. During World War II, the British Royal Marines installed 6-inch naval guns on Diego Garcia in February, 1942, to protect the local base from enemy attacks. Cannon Point is now a historic World War II site and a popular walking path known as the “Cannon Point Trail”.
