Gettysburg National Military Park

Gettysburg National Military Park Art.

Gettysburg National Military Park protects and interprets the landscape of the Battle of Gettysburg, fought over three days between July 1 and July 3, 1863, during the American Civil War. The park, in the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, area, is managed by the National Park Service. The Union (North) won the Battle of Gettysburg, halting Confederate (South) General Robert E. Lee’s invasion of the North. This decisive victory is considered the turning point of the American Civil War. The Union won the American Civil War, permanently preserving the United States as a single indivisible nation and ending the institution of slavery with the ratification of the 13th Amendment, which freed approximately four million enslaved people.
