The Savannah CRTC is the Air National Guard’s premier training center for Air Dominance, known as the Air Dominance Center (ADC). This facility supports and executes large – force exercises and training opportunities for visiting units. The ADC provides an integrated, year – round, and realistic training environment, enabling Air National Guard units to cost effectively enhance their combat capability and readiness.

The Air Dominance Center operates out of Savannah Air National Guard Base. Located in Savannah, Georgia, the missions of the Air Dominance Center includes the missions Air Mobility Mission, Air Support Operations Mission, Command and Control Mission, Individual Training Mission and Tactical Air Control Party Mission. The first Savannah Municipal Airport was opened on September 20, 1929, with the inauguration of air service between New York City and Miami by Eastern Air Express. In 1932, a city resolution named the airport Hunter Field.Â
The 165th Airlift Wing is a unit of the Georgia Air National Guard, stationed at Savannah Air National Guard Base, Georgia. If activated to federal service, the wing is gained by Air Mobility Command. In 1948, Chatham Army Airfield was turned over to the Georgia Air National Guard and the airport was renamed Travis Field, in honor of Savannah native Brigadier General Robert F. Travis, killed in the crash of a B-29 bomber near Fairfield-Suisun AFB, California, and his brother, Colonel William Travis. To accommodate the airlines, Travis Field received a new control tower and an airline terminal in the former base theater.
