Giuseppe Bellanca’s “Junior,” which later became known as the “Cruisair Jr.,” became one of his finest airplanes and a design that lasted for many years. The “Junior” featured tapered cantilever wings, retractable landing gear and a distinctive tail group that included a pair of fins at the stabilizer ends. The 1939-40 models were powered with the 90 hp Ken-Royce engine and 1941’s 14-9L model with the 5-cylinder Lenape “Brave” engine.

Civil Air Patrol’s NC25197 flew anti-submarine missions out of Coastal Patrol Base No.13 at Sarasota, Florida’s Lowe Field. Its 17 patrol aircraft also included eight Stinsons, four Wacos, three Fairchilds and an Aeronca. Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF). CAP is a volunteer organization with an aviation-minded membership that includes members from all backgrounds. The program is established as an organization by Title 10 of the United States Code and its purposes defined by Title 36.
