Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 14 (HSC-14) is an aviation unit of the United States Navy, based out of Naval Air Station North Island in beautiful San Diego, California and they fly the Sikorsky MH-60S “Sierra”. Providing excellence in a variety of missions, day and Night they can be found; training for Search and Rescue over the San Diego Bay, practicing degraded visual landings in the deserts of El Centro, putting ordnance on target on San Clemente Island, and all over the world serving their Carrier Air Wing. They are also known as “The Chargers” and their mascot is the rampant, red-eyed, white stallion “Alphonse”, shown on their patch and logo. Their callsign is “Lightning”. They dominate anytime and anywhere, hence their motto: “DAY AND NIGHT, LIGHTNING STRIKES!” Naval Air Station North Island or NAS North Island is located at the north end of the Coronado peninsula on San Diego Bay and is the home port of several aircraft carriers of the United States Navy.
