The 27 FS was the first F-22 squadron to fly in combat on the opening night of Operation Inherent Resolve over Syria in September 2014. The squadron motto is “America’s Oldest” and the nickname is “Fightin’ Eagles” with over 100 Years of Air Dominance… And Counting! JB Langley-Eustis is one of the oldest USAF bases and was the location from which Billy Mitchell flew his historic training attack on the captured German Battleship from WW1.
