Langley AFB 27th FS

The 27th Fighter Squadron (27 FS) is part of the 1st Fighter Wing based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The 27 FS is the oldest fighter squadron in the USAF originating as the 27th Aero Squadron on 8 May 1917. The 27 FS was the first operational squadron to fly both the F-15 Eagle and the F-22 Raptor. The leading ace of the 27 FS in WWI was Lt Frank Luke Jr. nicknamed the “Arizona Balloon Buster”. The leading ace of the 27 FS in WW2 was Lt Thomas Maloney whose P-38 was nicknamed “Maloney’s Pony”.
