The 174th Attack Wing (174 ATKW) is a unit of the New York Air National Guard (NY ANG), stationed at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, New York. If activated to federal service, the Wing is gained by the United States Air Force Air Combat Command. The 174th Fighter Wing was established in 1947 as the first Air National Guard flying unit in New York State.  The wing began flying the the state-of-the-art MQ-9 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in December 2009.  It flew its last F-16 mission on March 2010. The 174th Fighter Wing was redesignated the 174th Attack Wing on 9 September 2012. The 174th Attack Wing has a combat mission as well as its multiple training missions, including operating the Field Training Detachment (FTD) which trains all U.S. Air Force personnel on MQ-9 maintenance procedures, and the Formal Training Unit (FTU) which provides initial qualification training to MQ-9 aircrew.
