The Salt Lake Air Refueling Company (SLARCO) is part of the Utah Air National Guard’s 191st Air Refueling Squadron located at Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was founded back in 1978 when the Utah Air Guard transitioned from the KC-97L to the KC-135A. To this day the men and women of SLARCO have continued to operate the KC-135 around the world executing the United States Air Force’s mission of global air power, and excellence.
The Boom Operator, (officially known as an In-Flight Refueling Specialist) is one of the few Enlisted Flying positions in the United States Air Force and holds the 1A0X1 enlisted job specialty code. Their duties include cargo loading, passenger handling, monitoring and troubleshooting aircraft systems, but most importantly conducting air to air refueling with other United States and NATO military aircraft.
