Schriever AFB 3d Space Experimentation Squadron
The 3d Space Experimentation Squadron (3 SES) is part of the 50th Space Wing located at Schriever AFB, Colorado. It operates experimental and prototype spacecraft, such as the X-37B space plane, EAGLE, Mycroft, ANGELS, and ORS-1. Schriever AFB lies east of the Colorado Springs and the Rocky Mountains with amazing views of Pike’s Peak. The 3 SES has operated at Schriever AFB since 2006 where it was moved from its primary location in Japan. The “ShiShi” is the squadron’s mascot and the operators refer to themselves as “Guardians” of the space domain.

The 3d Space Experimentation Squadron is the United States Space Force‘s premier organization for space-based demonstrations, pathfinders and experiments. The unit identifies concepts of employment, training, education and technical skill sets required to field selected future USSF missions. The 3d SES develops a core cadre of space professionals to serve as subject matter experts for all future USSF space-based endeavors, demonstrate operational utility of selected demonstrations and apply lessons learned from demonstrations and pathfinders for use in future initiatives. The squadron mascot is ShiShi and the operators are known as “Guardians”. The 3 SES motto is, “Unequalled Excellence”.
