The US Air Force’s most highly decorated non-flying unit, the 1st Combat Communications Squadron (1st CBCS), is a part of the 435th ACOMG located at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Their mission is to rapidly provide deployable communications and air traffic control services throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In many cases, the unit’s mission requires its members to be some of the first US forces to arrive and the last to leave. Hence the motto, “First In–Last Out.“ Located near Kaiserslautern, Germany, the unit is within a few hours drive of Neuschwanstein Castle and the Bavarian Alps.
