Amelia Earhart was a faculty member and Purdue owned her aircraft that she made her final flight in. Sully (Chesley Burnett Sullenberger III), the pilot who landed on the Hudson, got his masters at Purdue. The Wright Brothers performed at one of the first Purdue Aviation days, an event that still continues to this day! Purdue is best know as the “Cradle of Astronauts”, and has graduated 24 NASA astronauts,  including the first and most recent people to walk on the moon (Neil Armstrong, Gene Cernan, Gus Grissom… to name a few) Iven C. Kincheloe Jr, was considered the first astronaut reaching an altitude over 126,000 ft in his X-15, and was the first person to exceed Mach 3.
