Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA-125) is the first and only fleet replacement squadron for the F-35C. They train both navy and marine pilots. VFA-125 is located at Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. There is/will also be two F-35C Navy fleet squadrons in Lemoore as well.

The VFA-125 “Rough Raiders” were established on 13 November 1980 at NAS Lemoore, California, becoming the Navy’s first F/A-18 squadron. On 1 October 2010, VFA-125 was deactivated and its aircraft and personnel were merged into VFA-122. The squadron was then re-activated at NAS Lemoore on 12 January 2017 as the west coast F-35C Lightning II FRS. It received its first aircraft on 25 January 2017. VFA-147 was established on 1 February 1967 and flies the F-35C Lightning II, becoming the first F-35 active strike squadron in the US Navy. VFA-97 “Warhawks” have been selected as the next squadron to transition to the F-35C Lightning II in early 2021. With these three F-35C squadrons located in Lemoore, CA.
