The 63d Fighter Squadron is an active United States Air Force unit, assigned to the 56th Operations Group, at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. It operates the F-35A aircraft, conducting advanced fighter training since its reactivation in 2016. When this Squadron was reactivated in 1975, their mission was to train pilots and weapons systems officers for the F-4E Phantom II, and they switched to the F-4D in 1978. (see more below)

The 63d Fighter Squadron is an active duty squadron in the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. The “Panthers” prowl the skies around Phoenix in the F-35A Lightning II, training next-generation fighter pilots for the US Air Force. Boasting a proud World War II heritage, the squadron counts 167.5 aerial victories while flying the legendary P-47C Thunderbolt. The Panthers became a fighter squadron with a training mission in 1975, flying the F-4E Phantom II and later the F-16C/D Fighting Falcon until 2009. The squadron transitioned to the F-35 in 2017, initially partnering with the Turkish Air Force. Since 2019, the Panthers are the sole US-only squadron at Luke AFB, leading the wing’s tactical prowess in the modern-day Twin-Tailed Lightning II. “Good Hunting! PROWL”!
