Holloman AFB 8th Fighter Squadron vintage style military aviation travel poster art by – Squadron Posters!
Holloman AFB operates the F-16 Viper conducting initial training, transition, and instructor upgrades training. This Squadron traces its origins to the formation of the 49th Pursuit Group at Selfridge Field, Michigan on 20 November 1940, where it was equipped with P-35s. Known as “The Black Sheep,” the 8th got its nickname during WW II. When the neighboring squadrons were being issued new aircraft to fly, the 8th was left with the older aircraft being replaced. This do not stop them, however, from achieving 207 aerial victories and garnering 14 Aces. The 8th Fighter has flown 15 different aircraft since its beginning, to include the P-51, F-100, F-15, F-117, and F-22.
