This poster is dedicated to the Submariners who served on the USS Indiana. USS Indiana (SSN – 789) is a Virginia – class attack submarine, the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for the State of Indiana. Like her 20 th century big gunned predecessors, BB – 1 and BB – 58, Indiana continues the tradition of bringing cutting – edge, devastating firepower to the frontline of naval conflict. The contract to build her was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia on 22 December 2008, her keel was laid down on 16 May 2015, launched on 9 June 2017 and commissioned on 29 September 2018. USS Indiana is a member of Submarine Squadron Twelve, home ported at Naval Submarine Base New London, Connecticut. New London and by extension Groton, is the United States Navy’s premier East Coast submarine base, also known as the “Submarine capital of the world”.
