[description]Ft. Gordon 5th Intelligence Squadron
Ft. Gordon 5th Intelligence Squadron heritage poster art.
The 5th Intelligence Squadron (5th IS) located at Fort Gordon, Georgia subordinate to the 659th ISR Group as part of the 70th ISR Wing. Known as “the Ghost in the Machine”, the 5th IS executes the Air Force’s Cyber Mission, both offensive and defensive, in support of Combatant Command Operations. The 5th IS is a reactivation of the 5th Radio Squadron, Mobile (J) which intercepted Japanese communications and provided communications intelligence to the 10th Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. They were initially based out of Chabua, India, then advanced to Mykitna, Burma (Myanmar), and ended the war in Kunming, China.
This 5th IS “Reading the Enemy’s Mail Since 1944” heritage poster art commemorates the RSM collection activities during World War II and the continuation of collection 70 years later with the activation of the 5th IS in 2014. Thank you to all who serve or have served in the 5th Intelligence Squadron or the 5th Radio Squadron, Mobile (J)!
