The 356th Airlift Squadron is part of the 433rd “Alamo Wing”, and operates out of Kelly Field Annex at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. First constituted in WWII to instruct B-24 aircrew, the 356th is now an Air Force Reserve Formal Training Unit that produces pilot, engineer, and loadmaster specialties to sustain world wide Air Force C-5M Super Galaxy operations. What started as a small outcropping of Spanish missions 300 years ago has become the fastest growing metropolis in the nation. In 2017, the city trademarked the name “Military City USA” to honor the strong military presence, which was certainly called for during the Battle of the Alamo, where San Antonio became a national beacon of bravery and independence.
