Yakima Dustoff UH-60

Yakima Dustoff UH-60 poster art.

The United States Army Air Ambulance Detachment (USAAAD) at Yakima (Joint Base Lewis-McChord) has a flying area that encompasses the state of Washington and parts of Oregon. Their primary mission is to provide aeromedical evacuation coverage for Soldiers training at the Yakima Training Center. They also support civilian search and rescue missions to save injured citizens in the mountains and wilderness of Washington State. The unit is known for the longest highest Blackhawk hoist rescue recorded in the Army as well as countless hoist rescues at high elevation (above 11,000 ft.) In contrast to rainy Western WA, the town of Yakima is known for 300 days of sun annually, making it perfect for farming apples, hops, and wine vineyards.
