Personalized Jet Black FA-18C art by Squadron Posters!
While the F/A-18C incorporated block upgrades for enhanced capabilities like updated missiles and jamming devices, these are not visually distinguishable. Later F/A-18C models (Lot 12 and beyond) also include features like NVG compatible cockpit lighting, a thermal imaging navigation set, and a raster HUD for night attack capabilities. The main visible difference between an F/A-18A and F/A-18C Hornet is the antenna configuration. The F/A-18C has additional antenna bumps on the spine behind the cockpit and on the nose gear door, while the F/A-18A has fewer. The F/A-18C also introduced a new ejection seat (NACES) and emergency canopy jettison doors in later production models. The F/A-18C has more visible antenna bumps than the F/A-18A. Specifically, the F/A-18C has two antenna bumps behind the cockpit on the spine, two additional bumps on each side of the nose (one near the LEX and another above the nose formation light), and one on the nose gear door. The F/A-18A does not have these additional antennas. The F/A-18A/B airframes have these doors in the nose, while the C/D airframes do not.
