David Ellison said that the Top Gun 2 project is in development and he revealed plot details in Berlin, Collider reports. The current details are slim so we’ll fill this article with Top Gun memes to make it more interesting. So what’s in the movie?
“Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now,” Ellison said. “He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today.”
You may be a little leery as Justin Marks’ (imdb) is known for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) and Rewind (2013). Hopefully he can roll up his sleeves and reprise America’s greatest movie fighter pilot. Currently, details about the plot can only be summed up by “it’s classified”.
We did get a few details as Ellison revealed that drones will play a role; “It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters … It’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today.”

Maverick is confirmed; “There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie, and there is no Top Gun without Maverick,” he said. “And it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick.”
