Wurtsmith Air Force Base is a decommissioned United States Air Force base in Iosco County, Michigan. Wurtsmith Airport (Oscoda–Wurtsmith Airport) is a public use airport located three nautical miles northwest of the central business district of Oscoda. It operated from 1923 until decommissioned in 1993. The B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. The B-52 has been operated by the United States Air Force since the 1950s. “Peace is Our Profession” was the Motto of the Strategic Air Command (SAC).
