Maryland ANG 104th Fighter Squadron vintage style military aviation travel poster art by – Squadron Posters!
The 104th Fighter Squadron “Fightin’ O’s” of the Maryland Air National Guard’ s 175th Wing is one of the oldest flying unit in the Air National Guard, currently based at Martin State Airport in Middle River, Maryland. Flying the A-10 Thunderbolt II, the Fightin’ O’s trace attack heritage through years flying the A-37, F-86, F-51, and F-47. Prior to, and during World War II, the unit flew a variety of observation aircraft, having been originally branded the 104th Observation Squadron, one of the 29 original National Guard Observation Squadrons organized under the Army before WWII. Warfield Air National Guard Base, located just northeast of Baltimore, is now home to the unit, after several moves around the Baltimore area were required as modernized aircraft and equipment needs evolved through the last century.
Warfield Air National Guard Base is the home base of the Maryland Air National Guard 175th Wing.It was named in honor of Major General Edwin “Ted” Warfield III, former adjutant general of Maryland, in 1982.
