This vintage style military aviation travel poster “Ladd AFB Alaska C-47” artwork is dedicated to all those who served at Ladd Air Force Base and flew maintained or supported the C-47 SkytrainLadd Army Airfield (also known as Ladd Air Force Base) is the military airfield located at Fort Jonathan Wainwright, located in Fairbanks, Alaska. It was originally called Fairbanks Air Base, but was renamed Ladd Field on 1 December 1939, in honor of Major Arthur K. Ladd, a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps who died in a plane crash near Dale, SC on 13 December 1935. When the Air Force was made a separate branch in 1947 the name was changed to Ladd Air Force Base. For many years, it would be one of two Air Force bases in the Fairbanks area. The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota  (RAF designation) is a military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II and remains in front line service with various military operators to the present day.
