The men and women of the Test Group at Holloman AFB NM operate one-of-a-kind, world-class test facilities for high speed sled track testing, navigation and guidance system testing, radar signature measurements, weapon systems flight testing. The 846th Test Squadron operates the Holloman High Speed Test Track and set a world record for propelling a sled at over 9,465 feet per second down the 50,988 feet long track. The 746th Test Squadron is recognized as the leader in GPS electronic open-air combat threat environment testing and as the center of excellence for testing all aircraft and missile inertial guidance systems. The 586th Flight Test Squadron operates four highly modified T-38C aircraft, capable of carrying up to a 1,000 lb store. Additionally, the 586 FLTS operates a C-12J modified with two centerline pylons and multiple modular antenna mounts to support rapid prototype testing. Holloman Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located six miles southwest of the central business district of Alamogordo, New Mexico.
