The 1-101st Aviation Regiment is a historical organization within the United States Army that is best known for firing the first shots of the Persian Gulf War from AH-64 Apache helicopters. The 1-101st Aviation Regiment has deployed numerous times to Iraq and Afghanistan. The mission of the 1-101st Aviation Regiment is to, on orders, deploy worldwide and conduct attack, reconnaissance, and security operations to locate, identify and eliminate enemy forces.  The AH-64 has been in continuous use by the U.S. Army since 1986. Fort Campbell is a United States Army installation located astride the Kentucky-Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Clarksville, Tennessee. Fort Campbell is home to the 101st Airborne Division and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.
