The 479th Student Squadron is part of the 479th Flying Training Group based at Naval Air Station Pensacola. The 479 STUS exercises administrative control of over 450 students at USAF Undergraduate Combat Systems Officer Training (UCT). The squadron also conducts all academic and simulator instruction for UCT. Instructor cadre of the “Fightin Owls” fly either the T-1A “Jayhawk” or T-6A “Texan II”. The 479th Flying Training Group is a United States Air Force unit, stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola. A component of Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The Pensacola beach sign is a famous landmark that directs drivers to ‘turn right‘ for a scenic tour along the gulf. The iconic sign in this poster fittingly says ‘bank right‘.

The T-6 Texan II is a single-engine turboprop aircraft built by the Raytheon Aircraft Company (which became Hawker Beechcraft and later Beechcraft Corporation, and was bought by Textron Aviation in 2014). A trainer aircraft based on the Pilatus PC-9. The T-6A is used by the United States Air Force for basic pilot training and Combat Systems Officer (CSO) training and for United States Naval and Marine aviation for Primary and Intermediate Naval Flight Officer (NFO) training.
The T-1A Jayhawk is a medium-range, twin-engine jet trainer used in the advanced phase of Air Force Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training for students selected to fly strategic/tactical airlift or tanker aircraft. It is used also for training Air Force Combat Systems Officers in high and low level flight procedures during the advanced phase of training.
