91st Attack Squadron MQ-9 vintage style military aviation travel poster art by Squadron Posters!
The 91st ATKS continuously operates RPAs around the globe to collect intelligence and destroy high-value targets in support of national strategy. Original activation was Feb 1942 and has flown P-39 Aircobra, P-38 Lightning, P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt, P-51 Mustang, F-80 Shooting Star, F-86A Sabre, F-84 Thunderjet, F-101 Voodoo, F-4 Phantom II, A-10 Thunderbolt II, MQ-1 Predator, and currently the MQ-9 Reaper. The “Blue Streaks” have been “Striking from the Heavens” since WWII.
The General Atomics MQ-9 “Reaper” (sometimes called Predator B) is a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle capable of remotely controlled or autonomous flight operations, developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems primarily for the United States Air Force. The MQ-9 and other UAVs are referred to as Remotely Piloted Vehicles/Aircraft by the USAF to indicate ground control by humans. The MQ-9 is a larger, heavier, more capable aircraft than the earlier General Atomics MQ-1 Predator and can be controlled by the same ground systems. The Reaper has a 950-shaft-horsepower turboprop engine (compared to the Predator’s 115 hp piston engine). The greater power allows the Reaper to carry 15 times more ordnance payload and cruise at about three times the speed of the MQ-1.
