The 82nd Airborne Division Association was formed out of blood and brotherhood in combat during World War 2. Simply formed by the troopers that wanted to keep the bonds of friendship alive after the war was over as most returned back to civilian life, along with honoring the memory of friends killed liberating Europe. The Washington DC Chapter is one of original chapters that formed the basis of the 82D Airborne Division Association. Since 1947, the 82nd Airborne Division Association has held an annual convention in various cities. Washington DC was host to the 1964 Convention honoring the 20th anniversary of Normandy. The DC Chapter would go on to host the 1975 and 1990 (50th Anniversary of US Army Airborne) Conventions. The 73rd Convention of the 82nd Airborne Division Association will be held in Washington DC., August 7-11, 2019 at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel. This historic convention will honor the combat jumps by the 82nd Airborne Division into Normandy and Holland and the 3,228 paratroopers killed in the liberation of Europe.
