AFOTEC is a Direct Reporting Unit (DRU) to the Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force, and it is in charge of testing and evaluating new warfighting capabilities in operationally realistic environments, as well as influencing and informing national resource decisions. AFOTEC’s MAJCOM-independent and objective assessments of how well systems will meet operational requirements serve as a vital link between developer and user.
Detachment 5 is based at Edwards AFB in California. The detachment tests and evaluates bombers, tankers, flight training, airlift, special operations, unmanned aircraft systems, and specific intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), command, control, and communications (C3) aircraft and systems.
